Cornerstone Federal Credit Union has changed from an employer/associational-based credit union to a community-wide credit union charter.
Who Is Eligible?
Anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school, or regularly conducts business in Cumberland County, including the entire borough of Shippensburg, PA is eligible for membership in this credit union. Businesses and other legal entities within the community boundaries may also qualify for membership.
Based on the above statement, how does this affect family membership?
The primary member must be eligible to join but does not actually have to be a member for his or her immediate family member to join. A good example is: John, who lives in Carlisle and is eligible for membership, has not joined the credit union. John's sister, who does not live in Cumberland County or Shippensburg Borough, is able to join based on John's eligibility.
What is the definition of immediate family or household member?
Immediate family members or household members include: spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, or grandchild. This also includes stepparents, stepchildren, stepsiblings and adoptions. Household members are people living in the same residence as a single economic unit.
How does this affect extended family?
An extended family member is defined as an in-law, niece or nephew. It is necessary for the immediate family member to join first in order for the extended family member to be eligible.
What will this change mean to existing members and their family?
Members of record continue to be members: Once a member, always a member. However, if an existing member closes their membership, they will need to qualify through the Community Charter requirements to join again.
